Let's establish
a sustainable
building lifecycle
let's build together

It’s now our mission to protect not just places but people.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is now a statutory consultee for high rise buildings. We’ll provide the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) with advice for health and safety standards. For over 45 years, we’ve put people’s lives first.

Who we are

In April 2022, the new Building Safety Bill received Royal Assent. This allowed the Health and Safety Executive to formally establish the Building Safety Regulator (BRS). And we’re going to build a more rigorous and robust regulatory framework for high-rise buildings in England.

The work we’ll do will create communication channels for residents to voice concerns, regulate the regulators and ensure high-rise residential buildings adhere to our new framework. We want to serve as a lasting tribute to those who have lost their lives from poor and substandard buildings and ensure these instances are consigned to the past.

We’ve spent the last year working with residents and industry professionals alike to ensure that everyone has a voice. And things are already changing. For example, we’ve seen noticeable and immediate improvements to the way fire safety plans are instilled into the planning of new buildings.

We’ve ultimately changed how new regulations are implemented. They now need to be adhered to throughout the lifecycle of buildings. From planning and design to construction and occupation. We’re looking to pave the way for new measures that will fundamentally change the way industry approaches the safety and quality of buildings.

By driving culture change we’re able to put residents at the heart of building safety. Industry needs to step up. These changes will have a lasting impact on businesses and families across England.

Why work for us

This is an exciting time.

We’ve set up the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) using insight and understanding from decades of industry experience. Our vast knowledge managing high-profile and large-scale safety issues will be effectively applied to setting new and pioneering safety standards. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape the way industry evolves.

As a brand new organisation, you’ll put your skillset to use in a number of integral ways. From Building Inspectors and Administration Professionals to Qualified Engineers and Data Analysts. You’ll be among the first people to hold these roles giving you the opportunity to create a legacy within BSR. You can view an extensive list of our positions here.

You’ll be behind a collaborative effort to challenge design and improve safety. Designers, clients and contractors need to understand how to comply with our building regulations. As we continue to introduce stricter rules and raise standards year-on year, you’ll see significant change in the performance of buildings and industry professionals.

Together we’ll shape an innovative, contemporary organisation. And the next 18 months are so important.
